Fortsatt äventyr i Nya Zeeland

Halloj!

Heey!

We have now arrived from Christchurch and are sitting on the airport in Melbourne, waiting for the next plane that's taking us to Cairns. Our group has grown as we met up with Martin and his cousin Ted here in Melbourne since they're taking the same flight. It's the middle of he night here now so we'll have to spend yet another night at an airport. Once in Cairns we're also meeting up with Felicia's stepbrother Mattias and his friend Elias. But now, the rest of our road trip in southern New Zealand.

25th Nov: After picking up Ghia, for a second time, we headed towards Geraldine. We got to Geraldine, but when one of the front windows was rolled down, it didn't go up again. We called Jucy who sent a mechanic to us and he was there within half an hour. He tried to fix the window but he couldn't. He then had to tape the window with duct tape and we had to drive back to Christchurch again. We had though already booked a hostel, so we spent the night there, and decided to drive back the next morning instead.

26th Nov: We drove back to Jucy in Christchurch where we had to wait for an hour only to find out that we had to change car again. Then we had to wait another hour for the other car. However, we still wanted to visit the Tunnel Beach, which is by the east coast, but also visit Lake Tekapo. As the both of them aren't on the same road, we spent the day driving further into the country  to visit Lake Tekapo; incredibly beautiful. We then continued out towards the east coast again and spent the night in Oamaru.

27th Nov: Andrea's birthday! We started the day off with a short trip down to Dunedin. We found a Cadbury chocolate factory there that had guided tours. It was too late that day but since we were spending the night there anyway, we decided to do it the next day instead. We walked around in the town and in the mall to finally sit down and have lunch/dinner around 4pm at a restaurant of Andrea's choice (and mine if I may say so). We all split Andrea's bill and then went to find the car and then the hostel that me, Felicia and Ghia were sleeping at.

28th Nov: The chocolate factory opened at 9am and we were there to make sure we made it with the next group at 9:30am. It took an hour or so and we received a lot of free samples, in both solids and liquids. They also mentioned that the world's steepest street was in town where they use to roll down big chocolate balls. We just had to try and climb that with our car, that thankfully was better than our last one. We screamed and screamed going uphill and when we finally reached the top everyone started singing "On Top of the World" at the exact same time, as that was the song playing and it timed perfectly. We of course thought there was another way down, but that was not the case. With no other choice we gave it a shot by braking the entire way down, hoping that the brakes wouldn't break, which they by some miracle didn't. Our next destination was Tunnel Beach, where we had to walk up and (mostly) down very steep hills and stairs. We finally reached the cliffs by the sea and a tunnel that led to a very rocky rock beach, very nice... and then we had to walk back up and down those hills and stairs again. We continued to Invercargill, where everyone spent the night at the hostel.

29th Nov: We were now heading for Te Anau where we were going to spend two nights to have the time to take the ferry out to Milford Sound on one of the days. We planned to do it early the next day and we also booked a tour in the Glow Worm Caves for the evening after Milford Sound. To begin with it was just me, Felicia and Ghia who slept inside at the hostel, but Saga and Andrea snook in during the night/morning and lied down next to the radiator.

30th Nov: We started the day by heading in to the city of Te Anau, as we were staying a bit outside of it. We took the ferry to Milford Sound, a world known fiord which was incredibly beautiful. It took a couple of hours and then we returned to our then home. At night we went to the Glow Worm Caves, which was fascinating but kind of gross. The following night Saga and Andrea joined us and they too slept inside from the beginning.

1st Dec: The journey continued to Queenstown where we also spent two nights and everyone slept in a hostel. But guess what? Something was wrong with this car as well: the speakers broke somehow and didn't work anymore. Like, what's a road trip without music? But we decided to just live with it and play music from  our phones for the last few days, we didn't want to lose even more days. We strolled around in Queenstown the whole day and me and Felicia planned to skydive from 12 000ft (ca 3657m) on the following day at 11:30am. In the evening we spontaneously decided to go to the cinema and watch Allied. We still weren't very tired afterwards, or maybe we were too tired, so we decided to go on a tour in the Fear Factory; New Zealand's scariest haunted house. Let's just say that my throat, or ears, still haven't recovered. Considering that, and the fact that I screamed the entire way down on AtmosFear in Liseberg which is just over 100m high, I got a bit worried about the coming day.

2nd Dec: The day arrived, time past and it was finally time to jump. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, except for the pressure in the ears which was worse than expected. I would definitely skydive again over going up a really high drop tower ride, though you don't have to wear a space suit when going up a drop tower ride. Afterwards, still not having evened out the pressure in the ears, we went up with a Skyline Gondola to have ice cream, while looking out over Queenstown with the mountains behind it. We made our  way back to the hostel and spent the rest of the night figuring out all payments to each other; yay, math!

3rd Dec: Our journey was coming to an end with only two nights left in New Zealand. One night was going to be spent in Franz Josef by the glacier and one had to be spent in Christchurch before returning the car. On our way to Franz Josef, we stopped at Puzzling World in Wanaka to visit the maze and the illusion rooms. When we arrived to the hostel we cooked food and had a movie night; Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason, out of the movies that were available there.

4th Dec: We had quite a long drive ahead of us to Christchurch this day, so we stopped to enjoy some hot water pools by the glacier for 2h. There were 36- 38- & 40 degrees pools there which were very nice and well needed. When in Christchurch, me, Felicia and Ghia checked in to a B&B, where we all took a nice shower each. Mine and Ghia's showers were apparently a bit too nice and long, as the owner was afraid that the hot water would run out.

5th Dec: We got up early to return the car to Jucy, but we didn't have to fill it with gas nor clean it because of all the drama with all the cars. We got a ride to the airport where we had to wait for 11h on our plane that was taking us to Melbourne. This is where we're sitting now, waiting for another 8h before we leave for Cairns at 6:10am.

That was our last week in New Zealand and I'm probably going to go back to not write day by day, but many more exciting things are waiting once we're back in Australia. See ya!
